Band Music Festival: The Music Festival will be held at Irvine High School Theatre, 4321 Walnut Ave, Irvine, CA 92604. Our Performance time is: 10:40am on Saturday, March 25th. Student call time is 9:30am. A packet with directions and forms requiring your signature will be sent out this week. Please be sure to check your child’s backpack/homework folder. Forms must be returned as soon as possible.

Volley Ball: Practice will be every Tuesday and Thursday 3:15pm to 4pm until April 13th,ending with a Faculty vs. Volley Ball Team match on April 25th at 1:45pm.

PTSL Meeting March 23rd: Our next PTSL Meeting is this Thursday, March 23rd from 6pm to 7pm. Kindergarten will provide refreshments Childcare will be provided.

Our PTSL Fundraising Thermometer is up in the Parish Hall. We really need your help to make our fundraising goal this year of $42,500! Each family needs to raise at least $200 for the first child ($50 each subsequent child) and volunteer at least 12 hours per year.

Kallpachay Spanish Immersion Adventure Camp is a place where campers get to Play Their Way to Spanish! This summer Kallpachay will launch 7 new Arts and Science themes here at VLS. The camp will be here at the VLS campus 6/19 thru 8/4.They are open to the Westside community so invite your friends too. Their counselors lead the children in activities using their fun and effective full immersion model. Questions please contact: Miriam/Director at 323-309-8420. VLS students receive $15 additional off early bird and multiple week specials. Varsity Band News:

Lutheran Schools Sunday: The Varsity Band will be performing this Sunday, March 12th at 10am. All band members are to meet in the East Room by 9:20am. Concert Dress is required. More details will be sent home later this week.

Pacifica High School Musical: “Spamalot” will be presented March 10th, 11th, 16th and 17th at 7:30pm and Sunday March 12th at 3pm. Tickets can be purchased at Pacificachristian.org. Ryan Tanabe-Forte, a former VLS student is playing one of the lead roles.

VLS Art & Social Studies Open House:
Our Open House, Art and Social Studies Fair is on March 9th at 7:00pm to 8:30 pm. All students will be participating in the Open House, with their Social Studies Fair Projects.
Lutheran Schools Week Church Service: Our Children’s choir and Band will be playing on Sunday, March 12th, at the 10:00am service.

Early Dismissal: School will close at 11:45am on Wednesday, March 1st, for Teacher Professional Development. There will be no hot lunch. Daycare will be open until 6pm.

Varsity Band Practice: Varsity Band will practice from 11:45am to 12:30pm this Wednesday, March 1st due to early dismissal.

EuroSoccer Make Up Days: Make-up classes are being scheduled by EuroSoccer. EuroSoccer will either notify you of an upcoming make-up day, or you will be awarded a class credit. Email Kaitlyn at: kaitlyn@eurosoccerusa.com or call them at (424) 228-5305.

Art & Social Studies Project Poster Boards: The poster boards are on sale in the 7th and 8th grade classroom in various colors and cost $7.00 each. Please note that you need to pay cash or check for the boards as they are being sold as part of the 7/8th grade fundraiser.

Congratulations to Alessandra Haddick in 3rd grade: Alessandra competed in a Gymnastics event in Las Vegas last weekend. Alessandra’s team came in 1st place (their best team scores to date) and Alessandra came in 2nd in the All Around. Her individual results: Vault: 9.250 (3rd Place), Bars: 9.500 (2nd Place), Beam: 9.550 (1st Place), Floor: 9.475 (3rd Place). All Around: 37.775 (2nd place)!!!

Sisters by Heart is a support group providing care packages and helpful information to families going through the discovery and treatment phases of childhood heart disease. The Faustman Lab at Massachusetts General Hospital is in phase two of their research to come up with a cure for type 1 diabetes. Chapel Offerings: Thank you for supporting the “Hearts for Jesus” project “Corazones para Guatemala” (Hearts for Guatamala) this quarter. This ministry helps the children of the village of El Progresso, Guatemala. Hearts for Jesus funds will be used to repair their school building and add additional classroom space, as well as provide school furniture and basic school supplies for teachers and students.

VLS Open House with Breakfast and Book Fair:
The Open House was an unprecedented success. We had 7 new families attend, with more tours/registrations scheduled. We sold 111 breakfasts (109 last year). In addition we sold over $2,800 in books. Silent Auction: Our Silent Auction date has changed. It will now be held on Saturday evening, March 18th. Donations are needed, a letter was sent home last week with ideas on how you can help. Remember we cannot do it without you!

Chapel Offerings: Thank you for supporting the “Hearts for Jesus” project “Corazones para Guatemala” (Hearts for Guatamala) this quarter. This ministry helps the children of the village of El Progresso, Guatemala. Hearts for Jesus funds will be used to repair their school building and add additional classroom space, as well as provide school furniture and basic school supplies for teachers and students.

Registration for 17-18 School Year:
THIS WEEK is Re-enrollment week and Open Registration to new students. Please return your registration packet for next year so that we can plan for supplies, technology, staffing, programs and curriculum.
The early registration discount of $100 extends to January 30th. Registration received after January 30th is the regular rate. Registration packets were sent home before Christmas vacation. Come and pick up a registration packet in the school office if you don’t have one.

PTSL Restaurant Night: The numbers are in! We raised $422 from our Islands Restaurant Night event. Thank you everyone for coming out in the cold and rain to make this a great community event! The winner of the student raffle was Anika Morgensen who received a $25 Toys-R-Us gift card! Congratulations Anika!

VLS Open House with Breakfast and Book Fair:
A HUGE thank you to all who volunteered and/or participated in the Open House/Book Fair! The event was a tremendous success, with many new families from our community attending the event and new families interested and enrolling in our school. Book Fair sales results etc., will be announced in next week’s pilot.

Class with most Participation at Open House:
The class that had the highest percentage of participation at the Open House was 3rd & 4th Grade. They will receive a “Free Dress Day.”

Silent Auction Date Change: Our Silent Auction date has changed. It will now be held on Saturday evening, March 18th. Our theme this year will be “The VLS Elegant & Outrageous Silent Auction”. Based upon the English Royal Ascot event, which is the most glamorous event of the British horse racing season and the perfect opportunity for the British people to do what they do best; Wear totally insane hats. Google “Royal Ascot Hats” to see what we mean! There will be a competition for the most “Elegant” and the most “Outrageous” hat. CHECK YOUR CHILD’S BACKPACK/HOMEWORK FOLDERS FOR IMPORTANT INFORMATION!

Parents please remember it is important that students attend all rehearsals. As you know we are preparing for 2 major performances and so 100% participation is required.

We are having a special pre-registration event at our Open House on Saturday, January 21st. The registration booth will be open and those who register for the 17-18 school year that day will receive a voucher for a free uniform item and will also receive a $100.00 discount on registration. The pre-registration discount extends to January 30th. Registration received after January 30th is the regular rate. Registration packets were sent home before Christmas vacation. Forms will be available at the Welcome/Registration table

PTSL Restaurant Night: Don’t forget that our PTSL Restaurant night is tomorrow, Wednesday, January 18th from 5pm to 10pm, at Islands restaurant. The restaurant is located at: 404 Washington Blvd., Marina Del Rey. Make sure you bring your flyer and raffle ticket to give to your server. The raffle will be drawn the day after the event and the winner will receive a $25 Amazon gift card! Everyone is welcome so don’t forget to invite your family and friends!!!

VLS Open House with Breakfast and Book Fair:
Let’s share our excellent school with those living on the West Side and looking for a school community like ours! Invite your family and friends to our Open House, Pancake Breakfast and Book Fair this Saturday, January 21st, 9:00 am to 11:00 am. In addition to shopping at the book fair, come and enjoy a scrumptious pancake breakfast and gourmet coffee with friends. Delight in quality social time with our VLS Community and enjoy story time with our guest readers, Orson Bean and Tim Drier throughout the morning.
The Book Fair will be open during the week from Thursday, January 19th, through Tuesday, January 24th. From 3:00 to 4:00pm and after church services on Sunday, January 22nd.

Free drawing for free book at OPEN HOUSE:
Each student who attends the book fair on Saturday, January 21st will receive a raffle ticket for a drawing for a free book. Each student who brings a friend from the community receives an additional raffle ticket ( for a total of 2 tickets) and their friend receives a ticket as well. You should check in with their class teacher (in their classroom) and receive your tickets to enter the drawing! The winner can pick out any book from the book fair.
Also, teachers will keep a list of all the children that attend the event. The class that has the most participation at the event will receive a “Free Dress Day”.

Don’t forget to order your breakfast early? You can E-mail or drop off your order to the school office.
