Band

With great commitment and enthusiasm, our Band Director Emily Booth (conductor and musician) teaches students to play, appreciate and explore the world of music. Any child in 4th through 8th grade will have the opportunity to participate in the band program. Students may choose a wind, brass, or percussion instrument, which they are responsible for purchasing or renting.

Beginning Band
Beginning Band meets after school, Tuesdays and Thursdays for one hour and is available for students starting in 4th grade. Children first choose an instrument, learning the basics of fingering, embrasure, recognizing notes and most importantly developing a musical ear for tone and sound. When ready, they join Beginning Band where they will experience playing as a group. During the year, students work on music that will be showcased in front of an audience at the Spring Concert. Cooperation, commitment, discipline and developing an appreciation for music is all part of the band experience.

Varsity Band
Varsity Band meets after school, Mondays and Wednesdays, and again on Fridays during music period for 5th through 8th grade students. Here children have an opportunity to challenge themselves. Chairs for each section are selected along with a Concert Mistress or Master. Healthy competition for these positions in the band raises the bar of excellence. The Varsity Band performs throughout the year with specially prepared music, learning not only to play skillfully but also to present themselves well in front of an audience. In the past, Venice Lutheran School’s Varsity Band has received top ratings and has given performances at the following events: Simi Valley Music Festival, Benefit Concerts for Breast Cancer Awareness and Armed Forced Day, Fall Festival, Pacifica Christian High School and Orson Bean’s production of Scrooge for First Lutheran Church of Venice.
