JOB DESCRIPTION – TEACHER
Job Title: Fulltime Teacher, Grades 3 and 4
I. Job Purpose
To provide a loving, caring, Christ-centered excellent learning environment for the students.
Has a minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in Education
Holds a current teacher credential.
Demonstrates a love for teaching children.
Evidences a lifestyle that reflects a dynamic relationship with Christ.
Is sensitive to the needs of children from various cultures and backgrounds, cares about the feelings of others, maintains confidences, and is respectful of others.
Is tactful, courteous, an effective listener, and uses correct oral and written language.
Is physically and emotionally healthy, poised, punctual, and enthusiastic.
Makes an appropriate appearance.
Eager to create and maintain a strong working relationship with staff – church and school.
III. General Responsibilities
Performs his/her duties according to the Word of God and the confessional standards of the Evangelical Lutheran Church.
Follows the policies and procedures of First Lutheran School as established by the Board of Christian Growth and Education and as outlined in the Staff Handbook.
Leads a moral life in thought, word, and deed both in school and out of school.
Teaches the curricula established by the school.
Prepares learning activities designed to meet the needs of the students.
Provides supervision of his/her students at all times.
Maintains effective discipline and student support in Christian love.
Communicates regularly with the parents and administrator regarding the progress of the students.
Maintains prompt hours as scheduled, notifying the principal if unable to work.
Works co-operatively with the principal, pastor, fellow teachers, and whole staff in ministry for Christ.
Supportive of the mission and vision of First Lutheran Church and Venice Lutheran School, participating in the life of the church and school community, Fall Festival, Christmas Choir Concert, etc.
IV. Specific Duties
Teaches primarily Grades 3 and 4.
Teaches other classes as mutually agreed upon.
Assists with special school activities and projects that are assigned as duties.
Attends staff meetings and conferences, PTSL meetings as agreed upon, and extracurricular activities in which his/her students are involved.
Completes required records, reports, and forms.
V. Terms of Employment
A. Ten-month contract beginning August, and ending June.
B. Compensation based on education and years of experience.
